Postnatal care and the first year

The family at the centre: after the birth I come to your home and support you so you can settle in calmly. And I stay by your side until your child's first birthday.

What you can expect

Take time to arrive. Everything else can wait.

  • Home visits in the first days and weeks after the birth
  • A look at your recovery, healing and wellbeing
  • Your baby's weight, navel, skin and feeding in view
  • Advice on breastfeeding and feeding your child
  • Advice on solids, sleep and everyday life until the first birthday
  • Support for the whole family

Time to settle in

As a mum of three, I know how much changes after a birth and how good it feels to have someone by your side during this time.

In the weeks after the birth I look after you and your baby, answer your questions and help you find your own rhythm. Partners and siblings are, of course, welcome.

How long do I care for you?

In the first days after the birth I visit more often; after that we go by what you need. Postnatal care (Wochenbett) covers the first twelve weeks after the birth.

After that I am still there for you until your child's first birthday, for example with questions about breastfeeding, starting solids or sleep. I am happy to explain in person which visits your health insurance covers during this time.

What happens after the birth?

After the birth I visit you at home. I look at your recovery and healing, at your baby's weight, navel and feeding, and answer your questions about breastfeeding, sleep and everyday life. Postnatal care covers the first twelve weeks after the birth. Beyond that I am there for you until your child's first birthday, for example with breastfeeding questions or on a doctor's prescription.

When should I get in touch?

Ideally early in your pregnancy, even right after a positive test. Many families look for their midwife in the first weeks, especially for care after the birth.

Can my partner be there?

Yes, of course. Your partner or support person is very welcome at conversations, check-ups and home visits after the birth. The family is at the centre of my work.

Will you visit me at home?

I visit families in Reutlingen and many places around it, for example Metzingen, Pliezhausen, Kirchentellinsfurt or Neckartenzlingen. You will find all places on the home page on the yellow town signs. Your town is not listed? Ask me anyway, sometimes it works out.

Plan the weeks after the birth early.

Many families get in touch during pregnancy. That makes planning more relaxed for everyone.
